The old viticulture custom of setting up the city’s wind rattle is a part of the Old Vine  Festival.

It is eight meters high and has four metre long sails and a six meters long keel. The melody of the wind rattle, that keeps the birds away from the ripe grapes, is the most popular music of the winemakers.

This music can be enjoyed by many people in Maribor since the wind rattle is erected on the top of Mestni vrh hill and its song can be heard in the centre of the town.

The philatelic association Idrija, established in 1949, remains loyal to the Idrija Lace

letters, postcards and picture postcards. Among the Slovene philatelic associations, the
one from Idrija is among the best. In the last years it was twice assessed as the best and
once as the runner-up on the state level.
Mining and lacemaking motifs are common in countries with this tradition. Slovenia
is among them due to the efforts of the Idrija association. On behalf of their proposal,
Pošta Slovenije (the national post office) issued two stamps with depictions of minerals,
twenty stamps with Idrija Lace motifs, two postcards with a lacemaker and with the
famous waterwheel »kamšt« and this year the picture postcard commemorating the
500-years anniversary of the discovery of a rich ore deposit in Idrija.
The exhibition involves a topical selection of predominantly domestic postal
publications collected and owned by the members of the association.

The lace exhibition offers insight into the historical development of lacemaking

The Tartini festival is an international musical festival dedicated to the Piran born maestro Giuseppe Tartini. Every year we join forces to be able to bring eminent, world renowned performers to the Slovene Istria and allow you dear visitors to enjoy the rich heritage of the great masters of music.

In 2008 there are a total of 10 classical music concerts in store at the Tartini festival, and we will also be introducing festival events in two new venues, Avditorij Portorož and the Koper Rotunda.

The festival ensemble „Il Terzo Suono“, which was founded three years ago, will accompany eminent soloists this year as well.

The distinctiveness and comparative advantage of the festival is its own festival production. This is an unique interpretation of compositions, that is the fruit of several days of labour of the great musicians, a synergic reinterpretation of the pieces, that each musician prepares at home. Tartini and the Tartini festival are becoming a great challenge, and a promotional opportunity for the whole of Slovenia and above all a series of superb artistic events, that year after year receive the highest praise of the critique and audiences.

The festival is dedicated to those who appreciate refined classical music and considering the eminent performers and the eminent in the audience, to those that wish to enjoy an evening of music but also make important new acquaintances.
