ACCOMMODATION BOOKINGS

The ensemble of brothers (Slavko and Vilko) Avsenik is not only renowned in Slovenia nor just in Europe, but known world-wide. This year, they celebrate 55 years since the foundation of the quintet that has published more than 120 records and cassettes to a total of over 30 million copies, the quintet that has been awarded a range of foreign awards for their contribution to the development of entertaining music and originality, and naturally 31 gold, one diamond and two platinum discs. It has also been five decades since the creation of the ‘Na Golici’ song (Trompeten-Echo in German), without which no real Slovenian fête is celebrated. Their songs ‘Tam kjer murke cveto’, ‘Slovenija, od kod lepote tvoje’, ‘Samo enkrat imaš petdeset let’ and others have almost become folk songs. The event, called the Avsenik Festival, is to be held in a tent in Begunje where the Avsenik family has its home, and they will be joined by numerous musical guests from Gorenjska, as well as guests from the rest of Slovenia and abroad. The beauty of Gorenjska, Slovenian dances, customs and national costumes will also be showcased via Avsenik music. Every day will have its own theme and story: Gorenjska day, day of youth, international day, Avsenik day and Slovenian day.

Idrija žlikrofi

The making of Idrija žlikrofi takes a lot of time and has several stages. The first one is that making the dough. It is followed by the preparation of the filling – made of potatoes, minced smoked bacon, onions, spices and herbs. The filling is formed into balls of the size of a hazel nut. The dough is rolled out into a thin layer, and the balls of filling put on it. The dough is folded over the filling and pressed together between the balls, so that a sort of a ear shape is gained. The upper end of each of the žlikrofi should be pressed down slightly, so that their characteristic hat shape is gained. The making of žlikrofi is thus ended, with only the last phase remaining – that of cooking. Idrija žlikrofi are served with crackling as well as various meat, vegetables ant other sauces.
