The new Regional and Study Library in Murska Sobota has become a popular gathering place of the young as well as the old. With its modern appearance, the facility, together with its interior design makes a strong impression on guests and tourists. At the same time a new town centre with a pleasant resting place at the square by the water fountain, is being created.
The beginning of our path is in front of the tourist information terminal and it leads us towards the railway station, past Museum steam engines, through a tunnel to the street, Industrijska ulice. In continuation we cross the street and so leave the clustered town area, then set off to the village of Rakičan by the Ledava stream.
The traffic eases off through the settlement and the path leads along the asphalt road to a large farm building and an extensive park, on the hillside of which stands a manor of extremely rural appearance. A relatively large inner yard is embraced by four wings and a central, one storey residential building dominates. First records of a fortified post are from the year 1431, however a castle stood here even before this. Namely, since ancient times the so called via regna – the king’s road, lead through Rakičan. Gradually a small village Rekethye, as it was named in a written source from the year 1322, developed by it. Finally, in recent times the manor has once again come alive and is gaining a new identity. It houses a research and educational centre with modernly fitted lecture rooms and classes. The Castle area offers accommodation in 14 rooms with a total of 29 beds. A culinary offer is provided at the local restaurant enabling us to rest and refresh ourselves for the continuation of the path. The castle also houses an equestrian club which enables guests to ride in the riding school, while more confident riders can also go horseback riding to the nearby vast fields.
The castle is surrounded by a large park, where in the shade of several centuries old trees, we can rest and relax.
We continue our way between the fields behind the Rakičan hospital back to the place where we conclude our walk, at the starting point.

Green path (Černelavci – Fazanerija)

The sports centre in Černelavci municipality is embraced by the tops of high trees of the forest which provide cool shade. It is a very suitable beginning of the path which leads us by the right side of the playground along the forest path through the forest to the field road along which we continue our path all the way to the next little forest where we then turn left. When we come out of the forest we turn right and continue along the canal. There the path enables us to join the path Murska Sobota – Fazanerija as the paths join in the shape of a bow.
If we decide to take the the shorter path we turn right at the end of the canal and continue our path along the Promenade of the European Union, through Černelavci along the pavement to the Titan restaurant, where we turn right to the Spirič restaurant. There the terrace invites us to take a rest and also partake of a small refreshment. After a short rest we can continue our path through the village of Černelavci, at the first turn we turn right and continue walking to the traditional ‘cimprana’ house. We continue our path along the same road and at the crossroads we turn slightly left and join the forest path which leads back to the starting point.

Green path (Murska Sobota – Fazanerija)

The Green path has an interesting characteristic, as it is possible to approach the path from two sides, each of which marks the start of the walk in its own way. The path in Murska Sobota starts in front of the Regional and Study Library in Murska Sobota in the street Zvezna ulica. The library facility is marked by a modern architectural appearance and in its immediate vicinity a new town centre with a pleasant resting place by the fountain is growing. The path leads us along the street, Kocljeva ulica, towards the town park and castle.
In the middle of the vast park stands a four wing, two floor Renaissance castle with impressive rectangular corner towers, dating back to the second half of the 16th century. In the park axes the castle connects with the Neogothic complex of the Evangelical church built between 1907 and 1910, which we can tour on our way back. The Protestant belief spread in Murska Sobota and the surrounding area from the beginning of the 17th century until recatholicism during the years 1671-1673. The Evangelists reorganised in the year 1886, however, the Prekmurje seniority with its seat in Murska Sobota was established in 1922.
The town park is adorned with a lake and it represents an oasis for relaxation, suitable to stop and rest, but at the same time the area is suitable for doing excersises and practising Nordic walking.
A walk through the park leads us past the castle and a children’s playground where we turn right and continue our way along the cycling path to the town swimming pool. In front of the town swimming pool, to the left, is the Fazanerija forest through which we take the regulated path leading along the north west part of Murska Sobota past the tennis court and the football stadium Fazanerija to the canal, along which we go right to the barrier. The path leads us along the north edge of Fazanerija and the Ledava stream to the football stadium and to the main road connection between Markišavci and Murska Sobota. We turn right and continue back to the town park. We can make a stop along the route at the Spartacus sports centre.
We return along the first path through the park, with the difference that after the exit we continue to the Evangelical church. Along the street, Slovenska cesta, the path leads us in the direction of the library. The path across the town is at a slower tempo and is also pleasing to the eyes. In front of the pub, Pivnica Zvezda, which has a large terrace in the shade of a chestnut tree, we can rest and watch the pulse of the town in the summer months. Here a very important event took place in the history of the inhabitants of Prekmurje: namely from the balcony of the, at that time Dobray hotel, in May 1919, on the basis of the right of the nations for self-determination, the inhabitants of Prekmurje proclaimed the Mura Republic, which lasted for only 6 days, although it is still inscribed in the collective memory of the place today.
This path enables connection with the path from Černelavci, thus taking on the shape of a bow, and is suitable for those to whom a longer path presents a greater challenge.
